juno what happened

Maybe junofest was awesome? Last night I tried to go see the Dudes and Arkell at the Roxy…only to find a clubs worth of people waiting outside to get in. We were right next to this gigantic outdoor tent with some okay sounding music going on inside…no lineup…but it turns out Midway State isn’t really that cool. Two power ballads in we had to find something else to listen to. Next we tried the Media Club to see Zaki Ibraham, it was also full an hour after the doors opened. Hey Ocean!, Current Swell and two other really well known bands in a 100 capacity venue? Who thought that was a good idea? FINALLY the Railway Club had the shortest lineup….only 45 minutes….Ladies of the Canyon were a (WAY) cooler version of the dixie chicks….4 part harmonies and one lady on the upright bass! Deep Dark Woods were good too, but I was really waiting with baited breath to see Plants and Animals. I saw them last week at the Biltmore, but getting to see them in such a small venue was exciting. They rocked the stage at the Biltmore, but it seemed their stage setup last night was apparently so bad they could HARDLY even play. Not that I have any idea what their sound was like, but I am still in disbelief at how terrible their set was. If you can call it a set. There was no steady time, their seemed to be something up with the vocalist…apparently their drum kit was broken…and they really didn’t want to be up there. Pretty dissapointing. I guess festivals can be hard to play for even the most experienced. Having said all that, it was nice to see so much live music and use up all the extra beer tickets from the night before.
